Do you walk along the Boyne? Do you know what creatures fly above and live beneath you, as you wander along the river path?

Fly to the River is an immersive workshop for all ages. Combining artistic activities, local knowledge and playful activism, explore the interactive displays, art, video, poetry, and maps with Sarah from Cineál, in our ‘Take Me to the River’ exhibition. Write, draw, and make together as we share stories and our experiences of the important birds and species that are essential to our rivers ecosystems.

Terence Cassidy from the Meath branch of Birdwatch Ireland will then lead us on a walk to the Boyne to view the purpose-built Sand Martin nesting wall. Sand Martins are migratory birds, the smallest of the swallow/hirundine family, and come every year to breed along the waterways of Ireland from mid-March to September. They are now classified as an amber-listed bird of conservation concern, so providing this secure nest site is part of local efforts to maintain the population of this beautiful bird in Trim.

This workshop takes place both in-doors, out-doors, and is fully accessible. Please dress for all weather types on the day, as we take a short walk to the river to conclude the session.

This workshop is supported by Bird Watch Ireland Meath.
