Enjoy a wonderful range of free demonstrations at Meath Made Creates this August. You are invited to watch these skills in action and chat to the makers. Ask questions and learn about hand making skills that are part of our heritage.
Suitable for all the family. A wonderful opportunity to show the younger generation how things were made before mass production. Discover a new found appreciation for hand craft by watching our members many years of experience in action.
Demonstrations throughout the festival include:
Saturday 15 August: Pottery Wheel, Wood Turning, Traditional Loom Weaving, Basket Weaving & Painting with Powders
Sunday 16 August: Wood Turning, Traditional Loom Weaving & Basket Weaving
- Members of the Irish Woodturners Guild will demonstrate how to use the lathe. Watch while talented crafters turn blocks of wood into beautiful bowls and other items.
- Taispeántais Fiodóireachta thraidisiúnta:
Experience weaving by hand on a large traditional hand loom. Simon O' Cróinín from Rathcairn Gaeltacht will demonstrate and explain the process in Irish and English. Watching and listening to the hand shuttle flying across the loom is a truly mesmerizing experience. - Painting with Powders:
Aoife Burke will demonstrate the technique of fused glass using her microwave kiln. Watch as she transforms powders into colourful glass creations. - Kathleen Mc Cormack will show how to make beautiful baskets by hand. Watch this talented lady create wonderful functional containers from willow using only her hands and traditional skills.
- Mien Rooney will throw clay pots on a wheel. Experience the magical transformation of clay by hand into symmetrical vessels.
