The Reason of Towns
12 September - 25 September
The Irish Architecture Foundation is delighted to present for the first time in Ireland The Reason of Towns, a new exhibition on tour this summer. The Reason of Towns celebrates the work of one of Ireland’s most renowned architects Valerie Mulvin (McCullough Mulvin). Visitors will enjoy three newly commissioned films and experience material fragments, archival material, and architectural models and drawings. The Reason of Towns is a celebration of the tradition of town making and living in Ireland, prompting audiences to take new notice of the potential and beauty of the towns around them. This notice is needed at a time of dwindling resources and capacities of craft and care, and as the very character of the Irish town is being undermined. The Reason of Towns will seduce and excite audiences, prompting local appreciation, action and debate, engendering civic pride, now and for the future.
Talks of the Town
Tuesday 17 September
Talks of the Town is a one-day programme of tours, workshops and conversations taking place at the Swift Cultural Centre as part of The Reason of Towns. Across the day, the Irish Architecture Foundation and Valerie Mulvin in partnership with the Swift Cultural Centre will bring the exhibition to life for all who attend. Take time out, explore this unique town in a new way and join us as we share stories, histories, and discuss Trim as a sustainable town of the future. You can book for some or all of the events across the day, but don’t miss the chance to be the talk of the town!
