Take Me to the River: Sights & Sounds

Take Me to the River is a creative discursive public exhibition exploring the preservation and shared custodianship of our waterways, immersing visitors in the life of our rivers through a collaborative curation of visual and sensory responses to our local waterways in Meath.

Sights

Throughout the course of the Take Me to the River workshops, photographer and filmmaker Finn Richards documented the process, capturing the people engaging with ecological specialists and artists in each unique place. The film below features sounds captured by participants and Cineál that have been woven into a soundscape. This, along with the moving imagery communicates the atmosphere of the environments and their rich biodiversity.

Sounds

As part of the second workshop in our Take Me to the River public engagement project, a dusk walk along the Ramparts, Navan, participants were encouraged to engage with the river and its surroundings through creative reading and writing exercises led by actor/writer Grace Collender. Each exercise began with a reading of a piece of prose or poetry inspired by the river, and was followed by a creative writing prompt. Participants were encouraged to explore writing from three perspectives; the third person, the first person, and from the river's perspective. These recordings by Grace are the participants' written responses to these exercises.
